Hangovers

A poem about what a hangover feels like!

You wake up with a thumping head
A spinning room beneath your bed
A dry mouth from last evening's drinks
Your clothes, your hair, everything stinks!

You feel that you could drink a lake
And there's that hungry feeling for goodness sake
But the distance to your refrigerator
Is something you'd rather deal with later

You see humour in your self-inflicted state
And think to yourself, "last night must have been great!"
You make it to the bathroom and look in the mirror
The sight you see puts you in quite a dither

You think, "this is the weekend I'm not wasting it sleeping!"
Your mind is saying one thing but your muscles are weeping
You eat some leftovers and drink water by the litre
You feel yourself beginning to peter

Those thoughts of making the most of your day
Have very quickly gone away
You feel you've hit a very rough trough
So you go back to bed and sleep it off!
